Create social signals live poll templates

Social signals polling shows subscribers how many other people have selected an item, followed a link, or interacted with your email content. A subscriber can see those numbers change every time they come back to your email. Social signals polls can provide a cumulative total for all links in an email or individual totals for each link. Add your social signals template to a new polling campaign and watch the reactions roll in!

Create a social signals polling template

In your account, navigate to Templates and then select Content Automation from the left sidebar. You can create a new template by selecting + New Template.

Select the canvas to change the background color and size using the options in the right sidebar.

Add a voting content source

Now that you have your background size and color set, it's time to add your voting block. This is what will connect the live feed of clicks to display the social signals, or click counts, in your email.

First, select the Add Block and position the block on your background. Select the Connect source icon to the right of your block.

In the modal window, select the Content Source option. Unpack the feed by selecting the arrows until you get to the vote options.

If you want to show the cumulative or aggregate click count for multiple links clicked in your email, select totalVotes. Example: you have multiple articles linked in a newsletter and you want a cumulative social signals poll to show X number of Email Geeks are checking out these articles.

If you want to show individual click totals for each link, select the first votes option. Example: you have a newsletter with multiple articles linked, but below each article you have an individual social signals poll that says X number of Email Geeks are reading this article.

Select done after you've chosen your vote type.

NOTE: Complete your first answer option before adding any others. The first option you set up will be the template for all the remaining answer choices. All formatting and setup choices will be copied to every other answer you add, saving you editing time!

Customize appearance and context

Your poll template will show a vote number with no additional information by default. Add a prefix or suffix for additional context, for example if you want to create a banner. With the polling block selected, scroll to the bottom of the General tab in the right sidebar to find the prefix and suffix boxes. Add your additional text here. Remember to include a blank space at the end of a prefix or at the beginning of a suffix to create a seamless sentence appearance.

If you expect to gather a large number of responses, under Format, change Type to Numeric and Input to the comma formatted thousands option. Select No decimal in the Output option.

You can also customize the font face, style, size, alignment, and color for your answer option.

Add more answers for each link

Whether you want to show the aggregate of all links clicked, or just the individual total for each link, you need to have as many answers created as you have landing pages. For example, if you want to show the cumulative for 5 links, then you need to create 5 answers. We strongly recommend no more than 10 total answer options for your email's best performance.

Use the + icon next to Answer 1 to add more answer options. Your subsequent answers will look the same as your first. Your connected voting source will remain the same, no need to make changes. You do not need to change the look or text of each answer, but you can. If you're using cumulative social signals, you'll only end up using the image from the first answer after you create your campaign tags.

Once you've added all of the answers you need, your social signals polling template is ready to use in a polling campaign!
